NOTES FROM THE CAR LOT DECEMBER 2007

Where did the year go? It seems like such a short time ago that we were starting our cruise nights and began the planning for our Show. Well, we still have a little breathing room, our 2008 cruise nights are in the planning stage and we are beginning the winter doldrums, you know, getting dark early, getting cold, high heating and electricity costs and not being able to drive our great cars. Fall is really such a beautiful time of the year but it means winter is on its way and that sucks.

We do have a lot of fortunate people in our club that can escape to a warmer climate and miss out on the shoveling of snow and the high-energy bills that accompany the dreadful cold, but those of us that stay behind might have more appreciation of nice weather when it returns.

We are having a pizza night at the next meeting as a sort of Christmas celebration. With all the correctness going around, I wonder if it’s all right to say Christmas. Oh, what the hell, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

This will be a great meeting to kick back and enjoy each other’s company. We have had a great year, we had a brand new Hot Rod Café, we had great cruise nights, we had a great show, we had some terrific get-togethers, including our best memorial run ever, we have gained some valuable new members, and the list goes on. We will have our banquet after the first of the year as a formal thank you for all the great gals that help us, but the December meeting is for the guys to talk and joke and laugh and eat pizza and drink whatever you want. We can talk about 2007 and we can show pictures that we took during the year at our different events and enjoy each other’s company.

Another giant feather in our cap is the help we as a club give to area food pantries and those organizations that help those less fortunate. I’ve mentioned it before that it never seems to get enough press, but this year I am privy to these special events. John and Debbie Ferron along with Butch and Marilyn Shepard took care of getting everything to the food pantries of East and West Bridgewater in time for Thanksgiving. They also took care of getting ten turkeys and all the fixins’ to the Spaulding house in Brockton.

For Christmas [there’s that word again] this formidable foursome is expecting to donate to the food pantries of Bridgewater and Middleboro.

Something special is being planned for the Cann sisters who are recovering from being shot in the head by their mother’s idiotic estranged boy friend. The mother died and the girls, Danielle, 16, and Brittany, 13, weren’t discovered for nearly 30 hours. It is truly a miracle they are surviving with a good prognosis but they are facing a long program of rehabilitation. I don’t know whose idea it is or what is planned, but I would like to be part of it.

Always a pleasure,
Joe
